Growth gateway announced at UK-Africa Investment Summit

21 January 2020

The UK announced a new service to help businesses access the government’s trade, investment and finance offer – all in one place.

Growth Gateway, announced at the UK-Africa Investment Summit on 20 January, will provide both online information and a UK-based team of trade and investment professionals.

The online resource, a section of great.gov.uk will include a tool to help businesses determine what support they may need and how to access it. The content, available in English, French and Portugese, will provide up-to-date information on the UK government’s trade, investment and finance offer as well as African market guides.

The UK trade and investment professionals, who will work closely with Emma Smith, Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for Africa, will help UK and international firms to trade with and invest in Africa, as well as supporting African firms to export to the UK and find investment partners.

The Growth Gateway service is a new initiative designed to underpin the UK government’s determination to provide support for African businesses and to help UK companies capitalise on international growth opportunities in African markets.

In the lead-up to the Summit, £6.5 billion of commercial deals had already been signed by British companies and, with Africa having 8 of the world’s 15 fastest-growing economies, with huge demand for investment, the UK is perfectly positioned to meet that demand and become the continent’s investment partner of choice.
