A better understanding among businesses about the benefits of exporting, both to themselves and the wider UK economy, is increasing demand for our growing range of specialist services and we’re on a quest to make the whole export experience a lot simpler for our customers.

The Chamber International website www.chamber-international.com represents everything we do and attracts over 24 million visitors each year. Our specialists are recruited from industry and business, where they worked in a variety of international trade roles. With a passion for export, they help our clients sharpen their thinking, streamline processes and drive business forward.

Adding value through collaboration

We give time to building our networks overseas and in the UK and leveraging specialist support from strategic UK partners such as FTSE 100 testing, inspection and certification agency Intertek.

In 2013 we were chosen by Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership to deliver its We are International campaign across 10 local authority areas including substantial northern towns and cities such as Leeds, York, Huddersfield and Halifax.

The initiative put more than 800 companies wanting to trade overseas, or break into new markets, in touch with experienced (and often award-winning) exporters who provided free-of-charge mentoring. It also linked novice exporters with the breadth of professional support available through private initiatives and the public sector, opening up access to guidance from peer-practitioners in virtually every aspect of overseas trade.

Excelling at trade facilitation

We’re held in high regard by the government. During the foot-and-mouth crisis of 2001 the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) allowed us to issue certificates for exports otherwise restricted by emergency regulations. In 2003 we helped ease the way for the UK Chamber Network to become a third party contractor to H.M Revenue & Customs. Now we and other British Chambers issue more than 150,000 customs certificates to exporters every year under this arrangement.

Every year we check Letters of Credit worth hundreds of millions of pounds and issue thousands of export documents over the Internet. In fact we hold the premier position in the UK Chamber Network for online export certification, playing a key role in the early development of the service.

For new and occasional exporters we can provide close support throughout the whole life-cycle of an order from first inquiry to final delivery. Hundreds of businesses rely on our specialist back-office team to take care of logistics, cargo insurance and payment, leaving them free to get on with running their business.
