US to impose tariffs on European goods following WTO ruling

Within hours of Wednesday’s WTO ruling on a 15-year dispute between the US and the EU, the US announced it would impose $7.5bn (£6.1bn) of tariffs on exports from the EU in retaliation for subsidies given to Airbus, with an apparent focus on that corporation’s biggest supporters – the UK, Germany, France and Spain.  The tariffs of 10% on aircraft and 25% on a wide range of agricultural products and industrial items may come into effect as early as 18 October. The list, attached here in original form, includes categories as diverse as woollen jumpers, sausages, whisky, bed linen and camera parts.

Exporters are strongly recommended to review it in full and contact Chamber International for advice if required.
