The North shines in export awards shortlist

18 January 2017

Firms in sectors including digital, healthcare, manufacturing and food & drink are amongst those making the shortlist for the 2016/17 PD Ports Northern Powerhouse Export Awards.

Dozens of firms were nominated in the first ever Northern Powerhouse awards celebrating international trade, hosted and organised by BQ, with several making the shortlist in more than one category.

Judges from BQ, award supporters PD Ports, export experts Chamber International and logistics specialists Advanced Supply Chain Group pored over impressive missives from sole traders right through to large companies operating out of the North of England.

BQ’s managing director, Bryan Hoare, said:

“We knew when we launched this celebration that the North had a wealth of businesses who were really capitalising on the opportunities that trading internationally brings.

“And we haven’t been disappointed. The shortlist is expansive, because we want to credit as many outstanding entrepreneurs and businesses as we can.

“With thanks to the team at PD Ports for their support, we know that this event will truly celebrate and inspire entrepreneurship by flying the flag for the Northern Powerhouse.”

The winners will be announced at a black tie dinner, taking place on February 9th 2017 at the Marriott hotel in Leeds – limited tables are still available for this first-of-its-kind event.

David Robinson, PD Ports CEO (pictured right), said:

“As Government’s Northern Powerhouse continues to gain momentum amidst a challenging economic climate, the rebalancing of trade coupled with the development of new opportunities to deliver economic growth and investment remains of critical importance to the North.

“Exporting will undoubtedly be a major catalyst in delivering the Northern Powerhouse and these awards aim to recognise the achievements of the North’s exporters and the wider supporting supply chain.”

Chamber International director, Tim Bailey (pictured right), said:

"This is an excellent initiative from PD Ports and BQ that recognises the wealth-creating companies who are working tirelessly to sell their products and services overseas. The standard of entries was extremely high and included some really good examples of how businesses are achieving growth from export."
