Chamber International to support Intertek with Certificates of Conformity for Ghana
The Ghana Standard Authority (GSA) has appointed global testing organisation Intertek to launch and operate a Ghana Conformity Assessment Program (G-CAP) for items imported and exported from the country which will be delivered with Chamber International.
After the launch of the program, thousands of shipments to Ghana from all over the world every month will have to be tested and inspected to ensure they meet national and international environmental and health and safety standards.
London-based Intertek, which operates out of offices in 100 countries, will help business with the conformity testing of products bound for Ghana while Chamber International will issue the certificates through its partnership with Intertek which is unique in the British Chambers of Commerce.
Products for which it will be compulsory for importers and exporters to have conformity tested, and appropriate certificates to obtain customs clearance into Ghana under the G-CAP, will be:
- Chemical Products
- Mechanical materials and gas-related appliances
- Wood pulp, paper, and paperboard materials and articles
- Furniture items (wood and metal articles)
- Textiles and textile articles (including African prints)
- Safety products (personal protective equipment)
- Food and food products
- Construction materials
- Selected medical devices and pharmaceuticals
- Used products (e.g. used clothing, used footwear and as defined by GSA)
