Letter of Credit enables ‘full steam ahead’ for Byworth Boilers

Supporting manufacturing exports to Bangladesh

Considering they make such a large and sophisticated engineering product, one might expect Byworth Boilers Limited to buy in many of its big components, ready for final assembly. But you’d be wrong. Instead, it’s justifiably a matter of pride that, starting with flat metal plate, the manufacturer’s Keighley facility is one of the only places in the UK where you can see an industrial boiler being produced, from start to finish.

Founded by Dennis Baldwin over 50 years ago, Byworth has been managed by successive generations of the Baldwin family. The whole team’s commitment to quality manufacturing that has led to growth for the business - not least in terms of its factory, which was extended as recently as 2021.

Byworth steam and hot water boilers, including our renowned Yorkshireman and Dalesman ranges, can be found across a wide range of industries and applications worldwide, including manufacturing plants, food and drink production facilities, hospitals, horticultural businesses and many more. Hence Byworth’s longstanding relationship with us.

Specialists in their fields

Arranging timely payment across international borders and different jurisdictions presents a very different challenge from designing and manufacturing an industrial boiler. This is where our Letter of Credit specialist Roy Broadhead comes in. Rather like Byworth, he has decades of experience in his specialism, and is a master of the process from start to finish.

A few months ago, a stage payment of more than £100,000 for the overseas export of a large steam boiler and accessories was held up during the Letter of Credit process. Roy stepped in on Byworth’s behalf, liaising directly with the bank and relevant parties. He clarified the LC requirements and ensured all the necessary details and documentation were correctly fulfilled. His expertise and support helped resolve the issue, release the payment and, importantly, keep the project moving forward.

“Chamber International gives us real peace of mind when it comes to exporting. As a manufacturer, exporting can bring a whole different set of challenges, particularly when it comes to documentation, Letters of Credit, and dealing with different countries and jurisdictions. Their knowledge and experience help bridge that gap for us, and give us the confidence that we’re getting things right. Their support means opportunities that might otherwise feel out of reach are much more achievable, helping us to grow and continue trading with customers around the world,” says Byworth Project Manager Gemma Carter.

“We’re proud to have assisted Byworth Boilers many times over the years,” says our International Director Nikki Clow. “They are great at what they do, and I love the way that they put Yorkshire’s name out there, on the side of their boilers, like a kind of ambassador for local manufacturing, wherever they are installed around the world.”
