Ellis Patents was the big winner at the York Press Business Awards 2017, winning the Business Innovation of the Year award and being named The Press Business of the Year.

The Rillington-based cable cleat manufacturer won the business innovation award for its No Bolts cleat, which was designed to alleviate a fixing problem that was causing Network Rail severe health and safety concerns.

On being given the accolade of Business of the Year, judges commended Ellis for “proving itself an inspiring innovator; successful exporter; responsible employer; and industry and community champion; that is led by an inspiring personality.”

Richard Shaw, managing director of Ellis, said: “We are very proud of our roots here in Yorkshire and the strong connection we have with the city of York, and we enter The Press Awards more to show our support for our local business community and the paper that reports so well on it, rather than with an expectation of winning anything.”

“We are though delighted to be recognised both for the many and varied strengths of the business, and for an innovation that we as a company are exceedingly proud of – and one that demonstrates just why we are fast becoming seen as our industry’s innovators.”

The award winning Ellis No Bolts cleat is a polymeric cable cleat. Stackable in nature, the product vastly enhances the speed and ease with which cable cleats can be installed and additional cable runs added to existing installations. It is manufactured from a high strength nylon specifically formulated to meet the London Underground 1-085 approved specification.
