Great Britain introduces new import restrictions on apiculture products from Türkiye

Great Britain has introduced temporary restrictions on certain imports of bees, apiculture products and beekeeping equipment from Türkiye following confirmation of an outbreak of Tropilaelaps mite.

The safeguard measures came into effect on 4 September 2026 and apply to imports into England, Scotland and Wales.

Türkiye confirmed an outbreak of Tropilaelaps spp. mite on 31 August 2026, with the outbreak first detected in Çavuşlu, Artvin Province. The restrictions have been introduced to reduce the risk associated with affected commodities entering Great Britain.

What imports are affected?

The temporary suspension covers:

✔ Honey bees
✔ Unprocessed apiculture by-products
✔ Used beekeeping equipment
✔ Apiculture products in honeycomb intended for human consumption

The measures apply to affected commodities from Türkiye and will remain in place until they are amended or revoked.

Businesses importing bees, honeycomb products or other affected apiculture goods from Türkiye into Great Britain should therefore check whether their consignments fall within the scope of the restrictions before arranging shipment.
