Chamber International cuts import costs for West Yorkshire manufacturer
16 May 2017
A major technology import into Yorkshire has been managed by overseas trade specialist, Chamber International.
Chamber International’s Logistics Associate, Robin Finnis and International Services Manager, Lucy Jones, helped windows and doors manufacturer, Quickslide, Brighouse, buy, and import, a new window manufacturing machine from Serbia.
In doing so, Chamber International acted as import manager handling all the UK import entries, payment of import duties and VAT when the equipment arrived at Dover.
Robin Finnis says: “These payments have to be paid on importation at the UK entry port. Some clearance agents in Dover charge a percentage for using their deferment facility, which, in this case, would have been more than £400.00.
“However, to assist Quickslide, we instructed our agent to use the little-known Flexible Accounting System (FAS) to pay HMRC directly, therefore saving the company this amount.”
Quickslide Finance Director, Zia Shah, says: “Chamber International was extremely professional and handled all the logistics, documentation and payment, via a Letter of Credit, for us and timing was critical as we were importing from outside the EU.
“Everything Chamber International did was expertly co-ordinated and they even managed to use a system which reduced our costs. They were first rate and we could not have done this without them. They also acted for us in the export of a labeling machine from another of our companies, Sessions Labelling Solutions, York, to Bangladesh and handled that excellently too.”
In a separate project, Chamber International has helped a private householder on the East Coast of Yorkshire import solar panels from Shanghai.
Chamber International helps hundreds of new and experienced exporters with a wide range of specialist services to make exporting easier and more cost effective each year and is exclusively partnered with London headquartered global testing organisation, Intertek, to assist with a wide range of issues including product conformity.
