PD Ports make the move to TOPS at Multimodal 2018
2 July 2018
Fargo Systems has announced that it has been appointed by PD Ports to provide transport management solutions to its logistics arm. The relationship was formalised at this year’s Multimodal show at the beginning of May 2018.
PD Ports will be implementing Fargo Systems’ highly successful TOPS transport management system and its suite of tools including TOPS transport planning, TOPS Anywhere, TOPS ePOD and TOPS.WEB, to further enhance PD Ports’ excellent logistics service offering to its customers in a competitive market.
PD Ports will be using the TOPS transport management system for everything from job planning and booking to routing vehicles and invoicing. It will be utilising the benefits of TOPS.WEB and TOPS ePOD handheld devices to manage just-in-time deliveries and to keep customers up-to-date with delivery information. A trial of the TOPS platform is currently in progress and following its success, the full roll out of the TOPS solutions will begin. Phase one of this will be the implementation of the TOPS transport management platform across PD Ports’ logistics division and phases two and three will incorporate the roll out of TOPS ePOD, and TOPS.WEB.
PD Ports provides distribution services to a wide range of clients through its leading logistics service, delivering flexible end-to-end supply chain solutions. The logistics arm of the business operates a fleet of circa 120 articulated trailers and 50 vehicles for local and national deliveries on behalf of its customers and has the capacity for on-site container shunting from Teesport to DC. In addition to its own fleet vehicles, PD Ports also works with a host of approved sub-contractors and suppliers for national deliveries from its sites at Billingham, Felixstowe, Swadlincote and Teesport.
Commenting on the new arrangement, Russell Spink, General Manager of PD Ports’ Transport Division stated:
“Our transport department has been growing over the past two years with an increase in vehicles of more than double and the addition of 20 new staff members. To ensure we are managing and maintaining our growth it is important for us to implement a new traffic management system.
“Using the TOPS platform will allow us to run the day to day operational tasks more efficiently, improve driver communication and provide better customer reporting. Working in a fast-paced industry, it is critical that we work with suppliers like Fargo Systems that are forward thinking and develop their product with the customer in mind.”
Steve Collins, Director, Fargo Systems added:
“We are incredibly pleased to welcome PD Ports as a customer. The fact that we formalised the relationship at Multimodal, made what is always a great show for us even better! The TOPS platform of products will give PD Ports complete visibility of the supply chain and will increase efficiency, enabling PD Ports to further enhance the high level of service it delivers to its customers.”
