New online export support for SMEs
22 October 2013
Thousands of UK small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) are to benefit from a major initiative to help them attract overseas customers through the Internet.
The UKTI ‘Grow Online, Expand Worldwide’ campaign, announced by business secretary, Vince Cable at a UKTI conference, will deliver training, advice and funding to SMEs to improve their web export capability during the next two years.
Britain’s 220,000 online retailers export more than the rest of Europe’s e-retailers combined and, to stay ahead, need to capitalise on the rapid growth of mobile technology.
The UKTI campaign includes local support for:
- 4,000 aspiring web exporters through a webinar campaign and international web workshops
- 1,200 web export-ready businesses through e-commerce master classes
- 1,500 web exporters with bespoke expert advice, website reviews and access to web exporter vouchers with up to £3,000 matched funding
- 600 companies from the UK retail sector to sell online by helping them to list their products on the world’s leading online sales sites
