HMRC launches consultation on future of Tariff Classification Helpline

A review of its Tariff Classification Helpline service is being carried out by HMRC as it says that it no longer fits with its digital strategy.

A formal consultation on the future of the telephone helpline has started and will continue until February 18 2015. HMRC says it would like to hear users views about the future of the service.

As part of a new strategy HMRC is trialing a new email address for tariff classification enquires. From now requests for classification advice should be emailed to:

A classification officer will telephone back in response to the email. within two working days of receipt, during the following operating hours.

Monday – Thursday                 13.00 – 17.00

Fridays                                          13.00 – 16.30

During the email system trail, the telephone helpline service will not accept incoming calls.
