Exports ‘highest since recession’ - BCC and DHL Report

UK exporting is at its highest since Q3 2007, the latest BCC/DHL trade confidence index says.
The export index rose by 2.85% in Q2 2013 and exporters’ confidence in turnover and profitability remains high.
More businesses took on staff in Q2 2013 and many expect more recruitment in Q3.
The index, calculated from export documents issued to businesses by chambers of commerce, is at 118.12.
Key findings are:
- Export orders for service sector businesses increased for 50% of firms to the highest figure on record. 44% of manufacturers increased export orders.
- 48% of exporters said sales increased in Q2 2013
- 51% of exporters believe profits will rise this year, and 60% say they will see increased turnover.
- 31% of firms expect to increase staff this year.
Director general of the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC), John Longworth said: “This shows UK exporters are working tirelessly to drive growth and lead economic recovery.”
