Autumn videoconference will help businesses prepare for opportunities created by UK-US Free Trade Agreement

A special Zoom videoconference to help UK businesses step up exporting to the US as the two countries progress talks on creating a free trade agreement, is being held next month (Sept) by Chamber International.
The September 24, hour-long, Transatlantic Trade Forum comes as UK and US trade officials start a fourth round of talks while the UK has not yet agreed an EU trade deal, four months before the end of the transition period.
Hopes of a mutually-beneficial UK trade agreement with the US have grown due to the global Covid-19 pandemic and US distrust of China which is leading it to bring much of its manufacturing home and expand trade with its traditional allies, led by the UK.
If the UK strikes a free trade deal with the US, which, at around $20.58tr, remains the world’s biggest economy, British exporters could benefit from greater market access, common standards and simplified customs procedures.
Issues to be discussed at the videoconference, which is free to Chamber International clients and West and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce members, include insights, advice and support from Chamber International’s US and UK based market access specialists; a trade talks update, a US market entry checklist and a round table featuring manufacturing companies with different stages of US experience, and Q&A sessions.
Businesses will also be able to find out what sales opportunities exist for their product or service in North America.
The third round of UK-US Free Trade Agreement negotiations, which discussed issues ranging from technical barriers to trade and good regulatory practices to state owed enterprises and anti-corruption, ended on August 7.
There have been reports of positive progress in many of the areas to be covered by any expected agreement and talks are expected to continue ‘at pace’ throughout the autumn.
In separate discussions, UK international trade secretary, Liz Truss, has explained the UK’s position on wider UK-US trade issues, in particular US retaliatory tariffs on UK products, including Scotch whisky, and said that that the UK considers these unacceptable and requested their immediate removal.
