West Yorkshire Business Boost
Masterclass: Doing Business with Turkey
21 August 2024
Delivered by West Yorkshire Business Boost
Overview
With a Free Trade Agreement in place since 2021, total trade between the UK and Turkey is growing rapidly. In the year to the end of Q1 2023, the fastest-growing component of our bilateral trade was UK exports, up by 41.9% to £9.1 billion, out of a total of £23.8 billion.
The agreement ensures preferential trading terms for UK businesses. Among the UK’s most valuable exports to Turkey are mechanical power generators, metal ores, and cars. We also import a wide range of goods from Turkey, including road vehicles of all types, consumer electricals, and clothing.
Turkey straddles both Europe and Asia and borders a range of countries. Its strategic location means it can function as a springboard for UK companies to do business in markets such as Central Asia and the South Caucasus.
