ABP Southampton welcomes biggest container ship yet?

19 March 2018

ABP Southampton welcomed the largest container ship yet this weekend with the arrival of the CMA CGM Antoine De Saint Exupery.

The 400m long vessel is one of the world’s most fuel efficient and environmentally friendly ships.

She is longer than four football fields and if all her containers were laid end to end they would stretch from Southampton to Enfield north of London - 78 miles.

In 2016 the largest container vessel calling in Southampton had a capacity for 16,000 containers.

And at the end of 2017 Milan Maersk arrived in Southampton with a capacity for 20,568.

CMA CGM Antoine de Saint Exupery is the flagship for her line and can carry up to 20,656 containers.

The megaship was delivered to the French shipping line in January and is fitted with many environmentally friendly features including:

  •          Pollution management technology
  •          New ballast water treatment to protect the marine environment
  •          Non-polluting paint silicone for the ship’s hull

ABP Southampton Director, Alastair Welch said:

“CMA CGM Antoine De Saint Exupery is just the latest of these new megaships to visit the Port of Southampton. Not only are these vessels bigger - they are much cleaner too and we are seeing more of these new generation ships visiting across the port’s key trades.?"

ABP is exhibiting at Multimodal on stand 4010 and CMA CGM is exhibiting on stand 3060.
